Viacom18 To Telecast FIFA World Cup 2022: Report

According to some media sources, Viacom18 has secured the media rights of the FIFA World Cup 2022 for a sum of Rs 450 crore. The network has been vying for the rights for quite some time.

The television rights to the event to be held in Qatar may be quite lucrative for Viacom18. Because of the minor time difference between the Arab country and India, the network may expect a large portion of the Indian subcontinent's viewership to tune in.

According to reports, the network is considering launching its own sports channel to cover the FIFA World Cup and has recently received fresh TV channel licences from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

Viacom18 has been on a roll since breaking into sports broadcasting in 2018, when it was awarded the telecast rights to the Nidahas Trophy. It now has the Road Safety World Series, La Liga, Serie A, and the Abu Dhabi T10 league under its belt. According to reports, it is also in the running for the IPL 2022, competing against Sony, Star, and Disney.
