Centre Issues Notices To Bollywood Actors Over Gutka Ads; Petition Scheduled For 2024

The court was also informed that Amitabh Bachchan had sent a legal notice to a gutka company featuring his advertisement, even though he had terminated his contract with them

In reply to a contempt petition, the central government notified the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court that it had served notices to actors Shahrukh Khan, Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn over their advertisements for gutka companies.

The counsel for the Centre argued on December 8 that since the Supreme Court was already addressing the matter, the current petition should be dismissed.

The bench scheduled the proceedings for May 9, 2024. Before, Justice Rajesh Singh Chauhan's bench directed the central government to respond to the petitioner's representation. The petitioner initially sought action against high-profile individuals endorsing gutka despite receiving awards.

Deputy Solicitor General SB Pandey informed the High Court on December 8 that the Centre had issued show cause notices to Akshay Kumar, Shah Rukh Khan, and Ajay Devgn.
