EU Decision On Big Telecom Advertising Venture To Be Made By 10 Feb

If the Commission has severe reservations, it may accept the merger with or without remedies or it may launch a four-month probe

A European Commission filing revealed that EU competition enforcers will make a decision by 10 February on whether to approve Deutsche Telekom, Orange, Telefonica, and Vodafone's plan to form an advertising joint venture to fight with Big Tech.

On 6 January, the telecoms companies asked the EU antitrust enforcer for permission to launch the joint venture, which would be their first attempt to compete with Meta and Alphabet affiliate Google in the lucrative online advertising market.

If the Commission has severe reservations, it may accept the merger with or without remedies or it may launch a four-month probe.

The JV will provide a privacy-led, digital identity solution to enhance brands' and publications' online marketing and advertising efforts, the Commission stated.
