Reliance Jio Gains Subscribers In October; Vi Suffers Major Losses: TRAI

In October, Airtel's subscriber base dropped to 35.39 crore, while Vodafone Idea subscriber base declined to 26.9 crore

The telecom subsidiary of Reliance Industries, Reliance Jio, added 17.6 lakh users in October, bringing its overall user base to 42.65 crore, according to information made public by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) on Monday.

In September month, Reliance Jio lost 1.90 crore users. While Vodafone Idea lost 9.64 lakh mobile users during the month of October, Bharti Airtel lost 4.89 lakh subscribers.

In October, Airtel's subscriber base dropped to 35.39 crore, while Vodafone Idea subscriber base declined to 26.9 crore.

With 10.77 lakh users, VIL's subscriber losses in September were higher.

As of October 2021, there were 118.96 crore telephone subscribers in India, a slight increase of 0.04 per cent.

At the end of October 2021, the number of urban telephone subscribers fell to 65.88 crore, while rural subscriber numbers rose to 53.07 crore during the same period, according to Trai.

According to the telecom regulator's monthly report, India's overall tele-density decreased from 86.89 per cent at the end of September to 86.86 per cent at the end of October.

By the end of October 2021, there were 79.8 crore broadband subscribers in total.

Reliance Jio Infocom (42.6 crore), Bharti Airtel (20.4), Vodafone Idea (12.2 crore), BSNL (1.9 crore), and Tikona Infinet (30 lakhs) led the wireless broadband market as of 31 October, 2021, according to the report.
