Women's IPL: Media Rights Auction To Take Place On 16 Jan

Big broadcasters including Disney+ Star, Sony-ZEE, and Viacom18 are expected to participate

The much-anticipated Women's IPL's media rights auction will take place on 16 January  rather than 12 January  as previously reported. Big broadcasters including Disney+ Star, Sony-ZEE, and Viacom18 are expected to participate in the auction on that day and reportedly submit their offers.

According to reports, the bidding will be a closed procedure, with the rights going to the highest bidder.

Jay Shah, Honorary Secretary, BCCI said in a release, “Any interested party wishing to submit a bid is required to purchase the ITT. However, only those satisfying the eligibility criteria set out in the ITT and subject to the other terms and conditions set out therein, shall be eligible to bid. It is clarified that merely purchasing this ITT does not entitle any person to bid. BCCI reserves the right to cancel or amend the bidding process at any stage in any manner at its discretion.”

The nation has been impatiently awaiting the tournament's debut, which will take place in March 2023.

Given the appeal of women's cricket in India, the event is expected to be very popular with all parties involved, particularly the broadcasters.

According to a recent report by e4m, the cricket board anticipates that media rights will bring in between Rs 160 and 200 crore from the 20 matches in the tournament, or Rs 8 to 10 crore per match.

Beginning in 2023, BCCI expects to make roughly Rs 107 crore each game from the men's IPL.
